Olympic Cellars makes list of Top Corporate Philanthropists
Port Angeles, Wash., May 15, 2009 – The Puget Sound Business Journal has named Olympic Cellars to its 2009 List of Top Corporate Philanthropists in an expanded Corporate Citizenship Program that recognizes companies of all sizes for their staunch support of philanthropic causes and organizations. Companies were placed in one of three categories, large, medium or small, determined by total revenue, and then ranked within each category according to total giving in the state of Washington. Charlton was selected for “star power,” demonstrated through over-the-top marketing innovation,
such as the winery’s annual Working Girl NO LABOR Day (a self-designated “holiday” for women), a strong commitment to philanthropy and a focus on making wine more approachable – all of which have contributed to her success in turning Olympic Cellars around and taking the business to new heights.
In just six short years, annual production of Olympic Cellars’ Working Girl® wines (a series

Dr. Greg Jones, a Southern Oregon University professor and research climatologist who has studied the impact of climate on the suitability of wine grape regions worldwide, performed the 9-month long study. Jones delivered his conclusion that the North Olympic Peninsula provides sound potential for cool climate viticulture, and the local wine industry should capitalize on the ability to grow unique grapes with a light, crisp, and aromatic style of wine that pairs well with the seafood of the region.
Kathy Charlton says: “It is our hope that the study will attract growers to the area, thereby raising the profile of the North Olympic Peninsula as a premium wine growing region and enhancing the region’s rich agricultural heritage through new vineyard plantings.”
