Concerts and Partnering Non-Profit Organizations:
August 1: The Gynocare Fund administered by Family Planning of Clallam County. Family Planning's mission is to provide accessible reproductive and sexual health care and education to adults and teens in Clallam County. In an effort to further break down economic barriers that can prevent women from receiving the health care they need, the Gynocare Fund was established in 2003 to provide financial assistance for diagnostic and clinical services for medically underserved women in our community. Since its inception, the Gynocare fund has provided crucial, and sometimes life-saving, health care to dozens of local women. Beginning in 2006, a percentage of the fund has also been allocated to serve men in need. With no administrative overhead,100% of the funds raised directly benefit Family Planning clients.
August 8: Sponsor: Homeward Bound provides permanently affordable home ownership opportunities for the families in communities of Jefferson and Clallam County. This donation will be used to continue the education and counseling to low to moderate income working families who are seeking secure affordable housing.
August 15: Sponsor: Port Angeles Farmers Market has been strengthening the local economy, supporting local farmers and food systems of Clallam County for many years. A local farmer’s market also strengthens the sense of place and community. This donation will be used to buy tables and chairs for the market and provide a “gathering place” for shoppers and visitors.
August 22: Sponsor: YMCA – Clallam County Family Summer Day Camp
The Clallam County Family YMCA's Summer Day Camp program serves kids ages 5 to 12 years. We expect 60 kids a day in this program with field trips, art, enrichment activities, and much more. More than 75% of the kids qualify for either YMCA or DSHS scholarship assistance. A mainstay of this program for years and a favorite of the kids is weekly field trips to the William Shore Memorial Swimming Pool. Projected funds from the concert will allow us to schedule a swimming field trip once every two weeks. That gets us half-way there, and we're thrilled to be able to tell our Day Camp staff-- and especially the kids-- that there will be swimming after all!!
August 29: Sponsor: Built Green® of Clallam County is a community network, working together to promote innovative, environmentally friendly home building practices, and to enhance our communities through leadership in sustainable development and the wise use of local resources. For the past 3 years, BGCC has utilized grant funding from the Washington State Department of Ecology to coordinate community partners in presenting “Making It Last! Solutions for Sustainable Living in Clallam County. Due to severe state budget cuts BGCC does not have current support for these programs. Proceeds from our collaboration with Olympic Cellars Winery will help to fund further consumer education efforts
Recently the winery was recognized in the top 25 small businesses for its philanthropic giving in the Greater Puget Sound Area. At the awards ceremony the Seattle Foundation presented awards to businesses that supported Healthy Communities. Three years ago The Seattle Foundation established a holistic and forward-looking framework of elements needed for a healthy community and used this framework to help identify organizations and leverage philanthropic dollars to support the community and the people who live there.
This Healthy Community Approach was the impetus for partnerships with non-profits and our concert series. The ‘Environment and Arts/Culture’ elements are supported by two other initiatives.
1. Basic Needs: Homeward Bound
2. Economy: YWCA – Clallam County Family Summer Day Camp
